NEWS RELEASE -- MARCH 14, 2022 --OAK POINT, TEXAS--
UNT wins Intercollegiate D1 west Regional Polo Championship
The UNT mens intercollegiate polo team won the United States Polo Association’s D1 Western Regional Championship in Houston,Texas this weekend defeating perennial powerhouse Texas A&M 12-6 and SMU 15-14 in 2 hard fought battles of arena polo the UNT Mens team of Vaughn Milker Jr (Dallas) Vance Miller III (Dallas) and John Dencker (New York) exhibited skill and horsemanship to the capture the title and now advance to the National Championship at UVA the first week of as the No.2 ranked polo team in the country behind No.1 ranked UVA. UNT players Vaughn Milker Jr and John Dencker earned All-Stars and leading scorers in the tournament with 8 goals and 9 goals each and the UNT horses won Best Playing string honors and it’s horse Sahara won Best Splaying Pony. UNT’s John Dencker also won the sportsmanship award for the tournament. The National Intercollegiate Polo Championship is expected to air on ESPNU.
